KERALA WILDLIFE HOLIDAYS
Day 1: Kochi You are welcomed & picked up by our executive from the airport and transferred to the hotel in your private car. (Our executive will be waiting outside the custom area with a placard of your name). Check-in at hotel for overnight stay.
Day 2: Kochi – Munnar (130 km / 4 hrs) Munnar – Drive towards picturesque Munnar is one of the fifty must see destinations of a lifetime and one of the ten paradises of the world is God’s own country. It is a 360 degree green carpet of tea & spice plantations, it is one of the most romantic landscapes of the world.
On reaching Munnar check into the hotel and later visit the Eravikulam National park. It is famous for its population of Nilgiri Tahr – highly endangered species of mountain goat. Return to hotel for overnight stay.
Day 3: Munnar After breakfast set out to enjoy wildlife on the Rajamala-Udumalpet road (SH 17) that passes through green forest of Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary – home to deer, leopards, elephants and the endangered grizzled giant squirrel. If you are fortunate the legendary white bison shows a rare glimpse to enthral. Overnight stay at Munnar.
Day 4: Munnar – Periyar (110 km / 3.5 hrs)Morning drive towards Periyar .The Periyar sanctuary, declared a Tiger Reserve in 1978 under the Project Tiger scheme, attracts travellers from all over the world. It was created by the old Travancore State Government in 1934. The park encompasses a 26 sq. km. artificial lake, built by the British in 1895 to provide water to the temple city of Madurai in Tamil Nadu. Also enjoy the aroma of spice plantation and purchase from local shops. Overnight stay at Munnar.
Day 5: Periyar Day for jungle activities that can be arranged by the forest department. You can either go for Bamboo rafting in the Wildlife sanctuary which is a whole day program or for a guided day trek, Elephant ride etc. Camping inside the reserve is also possible.
Day 6: Periyar – Kumarkom (128 km / 4 hrs)Early morning you go for a boat safari in the Periyar Tiger reserve. Later drive towards Kumarkom – a mosaic of little islands on the Vembanad Lake. A 14 acres bird sanctuary- a haven for a host of migratory birds like Siberian stork and many others including Egrets, darters, herons, teal, waterfowl, cuckoo, wild duck etc is the hall mark of Kumarkom. You can walk down to the sanctuary or take a boat trip round the islands. Overnight at Kumarkom.
Day 7: Kumarkom – Kochi (76 km / 1.5 hrs)Early morning visit the bird sanctuary for the sure shot encounter of described birds. After breakfast you drive back to Kochi . It is the most cosmopolitan and modern city of Kerala. It comprises of Ernakulum (the mainland) and a group of islands on lake Vembanad. It was also dominated by the Chinese, Dutch, Portuguese and the British. The sight seeing for the day includes Mattancherry palace, Pardesi synagogue, Santa Cruz Basilica, St Francis church and Chinese fishing nets. Also enjoy jet boat ride followed by Kathakali dance performance in the evening. Overnight at Kochi.
Day 8: Kochi – Wayanad (300 km / 6-7 hrs)After breakfast drive to Wayanad with most beautiful landscape in the state. With 26% rain forest Wayanad is home to major wildlife reserves. Patches of water bodies in the form of lakes and waterfalls are most attractive. Rest of the day is free and overnight in Wayanad.
Day 9: WayanadToday go for a safari in the Wayanad Wild life sanctuary is a part of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. It consists of two separate pockets: Muthanga in the east of the district is contiguous to the Bandipur and Mudamalai, and Tholpetty in the north on the border with Nagarhole. Elephants, bisons, sambar and spotted dear, peacocks, langur and monkeys are wholesome. Overnight at Wayanad.
Day 10: Wayanad – Kozhikode(130 km / 3.5 hrs)Morning drive back to Kozhikode airport to board flight for your onward journey.
